The Park lies in a wonderful valley to the north from Sibenik. The Krka river
flows among rocks and it has built interesting terraces. The deposited
limestone appears in the form of stairs laces where the creek seethes
further. The flora and fauna of the wonderful valley are also individual.
We are talking about one of the richest, most wonderful and most valuable natural
area of Europe the environment of which is valuable from the
aspect of monuments as well. KRKA - There are the archaeological findings from the Roman era and the Middle
Ages but it is proven that people lived here already in the Paleolithic.
Monasteries and the ruins of castles decorate the hills embracing
the National Park all around.
There is no car traffic in the park, the visitors are taken by regular bus lines
to the valley. If you park your car at the entrance at Skadrin,
then you can arrive at the great waterfall or if you start from
the car park at Lozovac, then you can access the waterfalls either
by bus or on foot.
Plitvice Lakes
They belong to the most beautiful sights of Europe, located in a valley and surrounded
by hills covered with woods.
The highest-lying lake of the system of lakes can
be found at a height of 600 m and the water, stepping
out of it bed and taking an adventure-ride all over innumerable
torrents, over a distance of 7,2 km, arrives at the last
lake lying at a height of 150 m. The water tramps over
the series of 3-50m-high torrents in branches reaching
away into various directions and the water of one lake
flows into the other lake in this way. The two smaller
lakes - lying like stairs - of Plitvice Lakes are connected
by 92 waterfalls.
The Plitivce Lakes were declared National Park in 1949 and in 1979 the region
was taken by UNESCO in the list of world heritage. Several
protected animals live on its area: beers, wolves, otters,
wood stock-owl. The tourist load of the park and almost
2000 employees insured the creation of an attractive park
and well-maintained service facilities look forward to
the visitors.
The exceptional sights of the Park are the karst caves, the Large Cave, the
Black Cave and the Tomin Tree Cave.
Zadar
Zadar is also called "the little Rome of Croatia" - owing to the almost 3000-year history of the town, its exceptional sacral
buildings and multi-coloured system of cultural traditions.
There are innumerable sights in the town, some of them from the antiquity. A
part of the town wall was built by the Romans and another one was
made in the Middle Ages. Most parts of the wall goes back to the
16th century.
The most famous sights of the town are the Citadel, the Saint Franz Church, and
the pearl of Roman architecture in Dalmatia, the Anastasia
Church. Its most famous church was built upon the order of
Donate Archbishop
at the start of the 800's. Next to it, the sanctuary and tower of the Saint Anastasia Cathedral can
be found.
The world-famous urban values of Zadar are completed more by the picturesquely
sectioned shore parts of the more than 1000 km-long Zadar Riviera,
with clear-watered bathing shores and around 300 smaller and larger
islands.
Zadar is also the closer country of origin of the Maraschino liqueur made of
the flavoursome fruits of the sour cherry plantations and also the
world-famous Croatian basketball players. |
